Many organizations always look for new customers to purchase their products. They neglect to maintain their existing customer base. Existing customers are of real value to an organization as they provide a sound customer base and when there is strong loyalty from existing customers, new customers simply walk in!

What is special about existing customers? Well, they are pretty much aware of your product or services and how you function. They know your policies. Take for example, a clothes store, existing customers go into the store and just pick up what they like because what they purchased earlier suited them and they were happy with their earlier purchase. You don’t need an ad to make them walk over to the store. This is very unlikely with new customers.

This will help you to correctly focus your marketing strategies on which prospects can bring in the most business to you. For example if your business is catering to the upper class section and you want to cater to the next strata here, you can predict their behaviour and requirements from your existing customer base.

What all this concludes to is that your existing customers are a valuable source of information to you on how well your business is doing and how well it is catering to customers’ needs and requirements. One thing about existing customers is that they will not tolerate decline in quality. If your existing customer base starts declining, it is a direct reflection of your product or service quality having gone amiss.
